The Good Society--The Role of Cities

Some interesting numbers concerning human settlement patterns in the next decades—the surprising math of cities and corporations. There is an extraordinary simplicity in life and an economy of scale. All of life is controlled by networks, and apply universal principles. Do all of the constraints follow?  Is this true for cities and companies?

 A good society asks critical questions about the meaning of place, scale, limits and diversity for every community. Is there an optimal scale for cities, or are they destined to collapse? Can we sustain the characteristics of place that first attracted us as we continue to grow? Are there absolute limits to growth? What is the relationship between place, limits, diversity and scale for sustainable community development. What are the optimal population and consumption rates for cities?
